Been A Long Time!

Its been a long time since I've graced this blog with my presence, much longer than I had ever intended. Spring of 2014, I had a total of 11 lambs, all sired by Three Creeks Tank. I only kept one lamb from the bunch, Mossburg, who I used as flock sire this past fall. I sold several of my mature ewe and am down to the small total of four. This summer I intend to increase my herd again, but for the time being, I felt it best to decrease my flock. I will try to be more diligent about posting. Bye for now!

It's That Time of the Year!

Lambing has started for the year! So far I have gotten a ewe and a ram lamb from Davina. They are simply darling! However, I have already sold them. I have sold the lambs, Davina, and Tank to a person that is wanting to get started with sheep. So, ram hunting once more. All of my ewes are expecting, looking forward to what is to come in lambing 2014!                                                                        Ram lamb ewe lamb As you can see, I got a gullie ewe, just like I wanted. But, I decided I would part with her. ewe

Updated Sales (Oct. 21, 2013)

I have decided to sell my current ram and one of my ewes, Davina. LostLakeFarm Davina Fletcher Magnolia x BluffCountry Cappucino Moorit. Born in 2006. She is currently being exposed to Three Creeks Tank. Great mother, no problems lambing since I've owned her. Sold as is (No promises that she is bred, but she has been exposed to ram) Will be ready to go middle of Novemer.  $100 Three Creeks Tank-- BEAUTIFUL dark brown scurred gulmoget ram lamb. He is by Caulfield Horatio out of Three Creeks Sinead. He has what I believe to be an intermediate fleece.  Tank will be ready to sell by the middle of November. I'm asking  $75  for him.  If you are interested in the pair, I will sell them for  $150.  Davina is not related to Tank, but the lambs that she will be having in the spring are. If interested, please look at my terms of sale. Email lorrie.killion@aol.com for more information on these sheep!

Lambs On The Way!

Sorry it has taken me so long to post! Time has been zipping away. But away, time for an update! I put Three Creeks Tank in with my ewes. I was going to hold off on the yearlings, but I decided to breed them as well. Tank showed immediate interest in Budgie. If anyone has a fine fleeced polled or scurred ram they are wanting to sell or trade let me know. Tank will be available middle of Nov. Don't be shy about any offers:-) I would like for the ram to be proven. I am hoping Moss Rose gives me either a kat or a gullie ram. She is my best fleeced ewe, and a ram from her would greatly improve my herd. However, I will take whatever she gives me. Lambing is my favorite time of the year!

Time For An Update!

Sorry for the absence, I was having computer problems. Alberta, Martina, Albert, and Pete Moss are now gone. I have been recently think about what I can do to improve my flock. One of the things I've decided is to change rams. Tank is a GOOD ram, but I am looking for something with a little finer of a fleece. I have nothing bad to say about him, super friendly, layed back, but I have decided to part with him. I am going to be putting him in with my ewes this October, and by the middle of November I should be ready to let him go. I am asking $150 if anyone is interested. I do require a $25 deposit. Here is a picture of him: He is a dark brown gullie. SUPER attractive. (I'm hoping to get a gullie ewe from him this spring:) Here is more info on him: Three Creeks Tank S36778 DOB: April 15, 2012 If you are interested in him and want more details, contact me @ lorrie.killion@aol.com

Four Fewer?

I was able to sell four of my Shetlands, my two ram lambs from this spring, Martina and Alberta, a couple of my ewes. I hadn't planned on selling Alberta, and I had Martina listed for sale, but I really didn't need to sell either them. But, these were the two I was willing to let go. This leaves me with nine sheep, eight ewes and a ram... four fewer.    Since I am selling Pete Moss, I will be breeding Davina to Tank. This will probably be the last lambing season I will keep Davina, I will most likely sell her after she lambs. She is getting up in age , and she isn't my finest fleeced ewe. She isn't old, but she is getting there. I have also entertained the idea of selling Tank after this coming spring. If I were to get a Gullie ewe from him out of Moss Rose, I would be more than happy to sell him. I would hope for a Gullie from Moss Rose, and not my other ewes, as she is my best fleeced mature ewe.    It sure seems li...

And Where Has it Gone?

I'm sorry for not posting sooner, life gets hectic, especially when you have the responsibilities of a farm. The lambs are growing at a rapid pace. They look marvelous! Daisy is probably my favorite ewe as far as fleeces go. I am definitely keeping her!    Someone had called and placed a deposit on Albert, one of the ram lambs I have for sale. Unfortunately, he had to cancel the purchase due to family issues. If they do not sell I will be forced to take them to the auction. There is nothing wrong with taking an animal to an auction, but male animals normally go to slaughter. Both of these rams have the potential to be great flock sires. However, there is always something better that comes along and there isn't a home for every cute ram out there.    I have also placed one of my ewe lambs, Martina, for sale. If you are interested in her, please email me! I'm asking $100 for her. To see a picture of her scroll through some of my older po...

The Good Shepard

Something happened yesterday that made me think. Well, I was putting the lambs and the sheep in the barn for the night, and Pete Moss decided that he didn't want to be caught, he wanted to do what his little heart desired. I spent hours trying to catch him, or at least trying  to run him into the barn. He would have no part of it. I had just about caught him and he got away from me. I was about in tears, I had spent hours trying to catch one lamb that didn't want to be caught. Then a thought struck me. In the Bible we are mentioned as being 'the sheep of His pasture'. How many times have we run from the Good Shepard to do what we want to do when all the Lord was trying to help us, or in better terms, save us from ourselves? I was upset about one lamb who wasn't listening to my instruction. I wonder how heartbroken the Lord must be for almost the entire world is running from him.     Thats all for today.          Sig...

Breeding Plans for This Fall (ALREADY???)

Since I do not have a big flock, I have already decided who will be bred to who this fall. Provided Pete Moss is not AG, I will be keeping him. Tank will have most of my ewes. Pete Moss: LostLakeFarm Davina    I would put Davina with Tank and sell Pete Moss, but she needs to have her fleece improved in a BIG way. Her lambs from this spring are ok, but they are a tad too coarse for my liking. I will be keeping them as well, in hopes to improve them. From all indications thus far, Pete Moss is polled; I do not see or feel any scurs. I have no idea if Davina carries poll, so I will have a 50% chance of getting a polled sheep if she's breed to Pete Moss. If she were bred to Tank, who is scurred, she would only have a 25% of throwing poll. I am honestly hoping to get a spotted ewe from the Pete Moss + Davina combo. Davina carries spots. Tank: Underhill Bar Lil' Country Moss Rose Lil' Country Alberta    My plan is to k...

Just Thinking...

We had some friends over, and I was showing them Pete Moss, the ram lamb from Rose. I thought he carried AG (the fading gene) but it looks like he is also going to keep his spots. I am really pleased with this... I am considering keeping Pete Moss, and breeding him to Davina and her lambs, when they get old enough. I'm not sure if Davina is a poll carrier, so it would be nice to breed her to a polled ram, then I would have a 50 50 chance. Davina throws nice looking lambs, but their fleeces aren't as soft as I'd like. Any ways, it would be nice to get more spots into the flock. I love spots! Several years ago, my family and I bred Dalmatian dogs. But because my little brother developed allergies to dogs, we got out of it. As much as I like Pete Moss, I still have him listed for sale. There is still time for him to fade, so we will see how it plays out. Have a good day!

They Are All Here!

Yes, they have all arrived. They all arrived several weeks ago, but I haven't had the time to post pictures! I really lucked out, I got 6 ewe lambs and 2 ram lambs... 8 lambs total! Not a bad start to my first year of lambing. I am really pleased with Lil' Country Beetlejuice's offspring. 6 out of the 8 lambs were his.    Bar beat Rose; Bar had her lambs first! Moss Rose: 1 Ewe (Daisy)  1 Ram (Pete Moss) Underhill Bar: 2 Ewes (Budgie) (Jasmine) Davina: 2 Ewes (Black Beauty) (Velvet) Alberta: 1 Ewe 1 Ram (Martina) (Albert)     I think  Martina, Pete Moss, and Albert are going to fade. I'm not 100% about Pete Moss. He may stay the color he is.  I do not think the others will. Anyways, here are pictures! (Do not yet have good pictures of Daisy. Daisy is a solid moorit. She is friendly) (Lil' Country Moss Rose x Lil' Country Beetlejuice) This is Pete Moss. He is for sale, asking $75 registered. (Daisy is in the backgro...

I'm Waiting!

The lambs are doing well! I'm currently waiting for Rose and Bar to lamb. I am really looking forward to their lambs in particular. Little Country Acres and Underhill Farm have quality aniamals and these two are no exception! Rose has a bigger bag then Bar's, but Bar is fatter than Rose. I don't have a clue as to who will lamb first!    When lambs and kid goats come along, it's habit to pick a favorite. This year is difficult. I love Black Beauty (ewe from Davina) but she's not quite to my standard as far as fleeces go. I'm waiting to see how she matures before I rule her out. Beauty's a little sweet heart. When you go to the gate, she will run up to you and expect a scratch on the chin. My favorites as far as fleeces go are the two lambs from Alberta, Winn-Dixie and the ram lamb. (Still haven't got a name for him) The ram is for sale may be interested in trading for a polled ram of equal value.      Here is the ram and Winn-Di...

Lamb Names

I have names for three out of the four lambs thus far. Like most Shetland breeders, I chosen a theme in which to name my lambs :  Famous Children Lit. Names.    I named the first ewe pictured below Lil' Hopper's   Velvet from the book National Velvet. The next ewe I named Lil' Hopper's Black Beauty. (Note: The North American Shetland Sheep Association requires all registered lambs to have flock prefixs, mine is Lil' Hopper's) The little ewe lamb from Alberta is Lil' Hoppers Winn-Dixie.    I need help on the ram, any ideas?

Lamb Post #1

Just as I predicted, Alberta and Davina were the first to lamb! They did a great job! I haven't come up with names for the lambs yet, I need to start! So far I have got 3 ewes and 1 ram lamb... I couldn't ask for anything better! The ram is out of Alberta, so it will be polled or scurred, no horns will be on him. He is for sale, I will not be keeping him, if anyone is interested.    Here are some pictures of the lambs. Hope you enjoy! (LostLakeFarm Davina x Three Creeks Emmit) Twin ewe lamb. She is one of my favorites!     (LostLakeFarm Davina x Three Creeks Emmit) Twin ewe lamb. I think she is going to grey. I think her sissy will grey too.   (Lil'Country Alberta x Lil'Country Beetlejuice) Twin ewe Lamb. Amazing ringlets in her lil fleece! It reminds me of her grandmother (Bar).   And finally, the little ram lamb! (Lil'Country Alberta x Lil'Country Beetlejuice) He's a little looker!   Here is a picture ...

They Are Getting Close!

My ewes getting closer and closer to lambing. I was told when I bought Davina that she wouldn't lamb until Mid-April. I think she's closer than her former owners thought. She has got a big bag already, and she's as fat as I'll get out. I hope to get a grey ewe out of her, since the sire of this lamb is a grey. Davina has AMAZING crimp to her fleece, and I'm hoping she'll pass it to her offspring. Alberta is right behind Davina. She is just as fat, if not bigger than Davina. I counted the days, and she is due and of this month, beginning of April. Her bag isn't as big as Davina's, but its getting there. Bar is pretty big too. All of them look big except for Rose. I believe Rose is bred, but I think she may have a single. You never can tell. I know sheep and goats are different, but I had a nanny last year throw triplets and she didn't look like she was carring even one! We thought the nanny wasn't bred at all.     All of my sheep have such d...

It's Getting to That Time of the Year!

My girls are big! Underhill Bar, Lil'Country Moss Rose, and Lil'Country Alberta are due end of next week, beginning of April. I am really looking forward to having my first batch of lambs! It will be a new experience for me. I'm not sure exactly when LostLakeFarm Davina is due, but she is a double-wide like the rest of them! She can't lamb that much later than the others, not with as big as she is. If Bar has a ram lamb, and it is up to my standards (which I believe it will be), I may keep it and breed him to my other ewes. Currently, I own a scurred dark brown gulmoget. His papered name is Three Creeks Tank. I am expecting great things from this guy next spring. All of my ewes should be bred, but they aren't bred to him. I bought all of my ewes bred. I am hoping that he gives me a gulmoget ewe next spring. When I was looking to buy my first Shetlands, I really wanted a gulmoget ewe. But, I found some others of good quality, so I called it good. Then, I came ac...
Hello all! This is my new blog! This blog will be dedicated to give you news about my Shetland herd. My goals as a Shetland breeder: (1) Ewes with good mothering instinct and produce enough milk for their young. (2) I want polled (unable to grow horns) rams and ewes in my flock. (3) Soft fleeces! This is a must! I like an intermediate and kindly fleece. I personally do not care for the double coated fleeces, but each to his own. (4) Eventually, I would like to get Shetlands with spotted fleeces. I find them very attractive! Who doesn't like spotted animals? (5) I  do not want my sheep to be BIG. Some people breed them up for the show ring, but I like them as the small breed they are. I hope you enjoy this blog!:)
